About Us

The Presbyterian Housing Association (PHA) was established under the Housing (NI) Order 1976 and came into being in February 1977.

The Association is registered with the Department for Social Development (DSD), Housing Associations’ Branch, who provide financial assistance for the building of approved housing schemes. 

The Association has charitable status, and is a founder member of the Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations (NIFHA).  It is also incorporated under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts (NI): Number IP178.

We were formed to provide sheltered accommodation for retired people and this has remained our mission throughout the past 30 years.  While the name “Presbyterian” appears in our title, the Association’s housing is available to all people – of any religious affiliation or of none - who are aged over 60 years and who are in genuine housing need.

The Association is administered on a voluntary basis by a Board which meets on a regular basis.  There are presently nine members on the Board, all interested in meeting the housing needs of older people and each member having some specialist knowledge or skill to offer.

Mission Statement - To enable older people to continue to live in a sustainable, community-based environment by providing them with safe and secure, affordable accommodation, built and maintained to the highest standards, and enhanced by the provision of unobtrusive support which facilitates an independent lifestyle.

Our Goal - Is to achieve steady sustained growth in our housing stock by making the most of the development opportunities we identify and to become the leader, in terms of professional standards, in the sheltered housing sector.
